My favorite children’s song is “Patty Cake” because it reminds me of all of the times that my children and I have baked something delicious in the kitchen. Even as a child, this was my favorite song because I felt like I was a real baker when I would sing this song with my sister. I would always want to sing this song and perform the corresponding hand motions whenever I was in the kitchen or watching my mom bake something tasty.

Today, I try to build that same tradition in my children by encouraging them to sit with me and sing “Patty Cake” before we bake treats or while we are waiting for something to cook. My children, who are two and four years old, are always enthusiastic about singing it and have a hard time stopping when we begin. I feel like it has really brought all of us closer as a family and has helped us bond in the kitchen. It is truly amazing just how much this simple children’s song has done for my family.
